Creating A Handmade Yellow Floral Birthday Card

by Lewis Rhodes

If you have a friend or relative about to celebrate an upcoming birthday, you undoubtedly want to share your well wishes for this person for the year ahead. One way to provide greetings is the giving of a card to show you care about the person. If the birthday boy or girl enjoys flowers immensely, and you know that they love the color yellow, create or buy a handmade yellow flower birthday card.

Pick Out The Right Paper For The Project

The first step in the creation of a unique card is to select a paper for the project. It is best to stick with paper with thickness so the card lasts for years to come. This way it can also be showcased in a frame or upon a mantle without worry about it bending or ripping. Pick out a piece of yellow cardstock rather than selecting construction or printer paper. If you wish to utilize the color yellow in different hues, cut strips of different colored yellow cardstock to glue upon a full-sized sheet of cardstock. This helps the card to pop out with an intense coloring sure to get the attention of the receiver.

Collect Flowers For The Interior

Gather flowers from your yard, a field, or along the road to use for the inside portion of your card. Make sure the stems and leaves are intact and check that the petals are not missing before setting aside flowers to use. To keep flowers in the best possible shape, press them inside a thick book for several days. This flattens the flowers so they can be incorporated into a card that can be opened and shut without difficulty. To preserve the flowers, place them inside plastic storage bags or keep them contained between two pieces of wax paper. To seal wax paper into a bag, use an iron to heat the pieces after the flowers have been placed between the sheets.

Add Your Personal Thoughts

Glue the plastic storage bags or wax paper floral arrangements to the interior of a folded piece of yellow card stock. Make sure you leave enough room to add text. After the glued flowers have dried, use a stencil to personalize the text around them. This ensures the wording is easy to read. Add embellishments like sequins, craft jewels, confetti pieces, or buttons to add bursts of contrasting colors and interesting shapes to the card design work.
